ISRAEL – An Asian Shepherd in Eshtaol, Israel recently gave birth to a litter of 17 puppies.
The small miracle took place at a vet’s office, where a 30 minute c-section saved the dog from suffering through all 17 deliveries.
On average, litters contain about 4 to 10 puppies, depending on the size and breed of the dog.
Kita’s vet said it took a lot for her to carry so many pups. She was also part of a litter than was larger than average.
Vets were concerned about two of the puppies who appeared to be weak. There is no word on their current condition. The mom and the others were doing well.
A Neopolitan Mastiff in the U.K. broke the world record for the largest litter when she gave birth to 24 puppies in 2005.

Seventeen puppies????? My goodness--the mom dog must have had a lot of work caring for all those puppies.
