I am glad the ending to this story was happy. I do agree with others though, how long was the mother gone that the girl wandered that far?

Brings a smile to my face. Dogs would lay down their lives for us, such wonderful animals.

Never underestimate the human-animal bond! I'm so glad both were found OK, as this is a frightening scenario for any parent or pet parent!

This story was all over our news out here when it happened. I think the dog instinctively knew that little girl needed looking after. She is one very lucky little girl. That area is somewhat remote with lots of coyotes, javelina, ect.

just read an article in the paper about a house fire and a terrier that stayed with a litter of kittens, instead of abandoning them. All suffered smoke inhalation but all are doing fine, and the dog is taking care of her foster kittens. Another hero animal.

we need to recognize these hero animals. the birds that yell when there is a fire, a dog that drags its owner out of harms way, even the cat that wake their owner to alert them to trouble. they are all heros

What a great dog this makes me think of the movie homeward bound when Sassy the cat, Shadow the golden reteiver and Chance the american bulldog find that little girl in the cave that is lost and keep her warm through the night.

This story could have ended much differently if not for Blue. He is a hero.

Are dogs like this really "hero" dogs, or dogs being dogs--and why they are "man's best friend"??

It is heartwarming to hear these wonderful stories of our heroes, be they human or animals. Thank goodness that Blue stayed close to Victoria and kept her warm and safe.
