I only wish that my dogs knew any kind kids,the only ones they have known have teased them through the fence,thrown things at them and mocking barked back at them. As soon as I find an animal friendly child in this town....I'd be happy to nominate them!

I love this event it teaches children alot and even adults alot about the way animals should be treated. Too bad I'm not a kid I could enter I bet I could win with my animal kindness.

We hear so many bad things about kids these days that it's nice to hear the good things, too. But I'm wondering if the love for the animals was the incentive, or the money. I want think the best and hope it was the love of animals.

I agree, Momba. I am hoping these kids were involved with animals before they heard about the contest and any prize. It is great to hear about kids doing good things.

I agree with you. I hope that the contest doesn't discourage any of the children who don't win the money. Maybe another reward should have been considred. ALL children should be recognized for their animal involvement.

I still have mixed feelings about the award being cash. It is good to recognize kids for their contributions, but the idea of giving money to a few who have been "nice" to animals is questionable. What's wrong with a nice trophy or plaque and a monetary donation to the shelter the winners were helping? If the American Humane Association is using money donated to it under the presumption that it would be used to help animals, but instead uses some of it for this contest, then the animals will be receiving a few thousand dollars LESS of such help.
