NATIONAL – Put down the hose, turn off the shower, and forget about expensive groomers, because there's a new trend in keeping canines clean.
If you loathe lathering your pooch in your tiny tub, then the do-it-yourself dog wash may be for you. It's simple, much like the car washes where plunking a few quarters into a machine makes car cleaning a cinch.
The self-service washes are popping up across the country. And for good reason – it's cheap, convenient and best of all you can make sure your pet is getting the treatment you think he deserves.
Unless, of course, he rolled in mud and ran around your house.
But no matter, at 30-50 percent less than a professional groomer, and minus the hassle of back-breaking tub washing, they're a great addition to the wide array of pet services.

Our local pet store has a couple do-it-yourself wash areas--I have never actually seen them in use though.
