Ever wonder why the Geico lizard commercials never take place inside a car? Easy, because the company doesn't provide coverage for pets.
At the time of this report, only one provider does – it's a service that adds to the ever-competitive world of auto-insurance.
Typically, collision insurance covers both vehicles and the riders, while liability covers only the other car and travelers.
Progressive's plans act the same way, except they acknowledge the need for pet coverage. So the company added options amounting to $500 to their collision and liability coverage - should a pet get hurt or die in an accident.
The best part is, the coverage comes at no extra cost to the customer – an incentive that will make taking your pet out and about that much less stressful.
Company reps say the coverage is currently offered in 46 states – availability is set to spread to New York, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Virginia, before too long.
