Coffee Table Bliss: When 'Power of Now' Meets 'Mutts'

Browse News

NEW YORK -- It is often said life is about simple pleasures, while some take the simple appreciation for the small things to be a product of a simple being like a dog. However, renowned author Eckhart Tolle and cartoonist Patrick McDonnell are attempting to convince us otherwise.

The much anticipated October release of "Guardians of Being," is a new collaboration between these two publishing greats, as McDonnell's delicate illustrations of man and his best friend are coupled with snippets of Tolle's inspirational passages.

The overall message of an animal's unconditional moment-by-moment outlook resonates throughout. Not only can dogs bring peace to their owners through love and loyalty but humans can learn a few things about simple living from the pets that share our world.

After reading Tolle's other works and crediting him as the inspiration in his life, McDonnell -- creater of the Mutts comic strip and board member of the Humane Society of the United States -- thought a combination of his illustrations with Tolle's teachings on how nature and animals are integral in coming to truth in the moment, would be a lighthearted take on such an important message.

Tolle has already paved the way to inner peace for millions of people, through his enlightening works "The Power of Now" and "A New Earth." He transforms the consciousness of his readers by encouraging the connection to the moment, rather than the past or future. One could argue that dogs embody the epitome of celebrating life. This book translates their undeniable lessons of "Life is good," "Live in the Now" and "Enjoy."

Zootoo Pet News gives "Guardians of Being" 5-out-of-5 paws up. In a world struggling to understand purpose, this animal-themed narrative brings insight to the big picture of life. Not only is it made from 100 percent post consumer recycled paper but it will be out in time for the holiday season as a thought provoking gift, suitable for any age and will certainly not go unnoticed.

Look for "Guardians of Being" later this month when New World Library Publishing is set to release it online and in book stores nationwide.

This sounds like a very nice book. The first book for any ZooToo cofeee table should be "Second Chances" by a fellow ZooTooer Cully Miller. What an inspiring book. ZooToo should do an article about Cully and his book, "Second Chances", and Project Zero.

Tolle is one of Oprah's authors. He is a very positive person an self examination and follows some of Maslow's self actualization theories.

I wonder why zootoo has never done a story on Cully's Second Chances book. Hey, zootoo, you should contact Cully and do a news article on his book to promote it and get Progect Zero launched!

I love dogs, cats and mostly every other animal! However, I already have the BEST coffee table book, written by a fellow zootooer. Second Chances by Cully Miller is a lovely book with stories and real pictures of shelter cats in Florida. The hope he has is to get other shelters to want a book done for their shelter and his dream is to launch Project Zero! If anyone wants information on the book you can find it under reviews right here on zootoo! Just type Second Chances in and search and you will see it listed.

My husband and I are thrilled to have a new book published by the same publisher (New World Library) that has come out this fall also. Along with Guardians of Being, our book, Horses with a Mission by Allen & Linda Anderson, offers the kind of inspiration and purposefulness people are seeking in the world today (horseswithamission.com). Thanks for writing about animal books that go beyond the need for training, etc. and get to the heart of why people and animals need each other.
