That really is sad and such a shame. It's bad enough people abuse drugs and poisen themselves, but have to carelessly leave it around for an animal or deliberately give to them. It's too much to comprehend.

I'm sorry to hear that Cookie didn't make it..I am sure everything that could have been done was. It's nice that she lived at least a few years happy..doesn't really make up for it though.

From what I read in this article as well as the previous article about Cookie on zootoo, it sounds like the poor pup was really suffering and this was the best choice. Bless the Michigan couple who gace her 2 years of a somewhat normal life.

Drug and animal cruelty charges for the former owner!!!!

i hope that people will learn from this story that you should never allow a dog to eat something that you lay around. Or any animal for that matter. My aunt once fed milk to her pet goldfish which died a few days later.

May all wonderful animals finally make their way to Dog Heaven!!

this is a very sad story but it's good to know that Cookie lived a good last year of her life with a caring family and other doggie friends.

poor dog. sometimes there is nothing you can do to help with an illness but to make the animal's passing less painful and traumatic.

the previous owner shouldn't just be in jail, he should have to go through the same thing that the poor animal had to go through!!!!!!!

i remember reading the original story and being upset and this is no less upsetting. hopefully the original owner will be charged with animal abuse, neglect, and other drug related charges

Easy the owner needs to go to jail for possession of cocanie and for animal cruelity. No mercy of them

that is sad....but i am glad this dog had a great time with her family until she went to heaven.

Thankfully the dog had a loving family for her last year. Sadly enough babies and small children are affected in this manner also - especially when the mother uses during pregnancy. Why people who choose to use drugs also choose to 'share' them with their pets is beyond my reasoning.

This is such a shame, but I too hope the poor little dog is in heaven running with all the other dogs and having fun. People are cruel.

While it is sad that she had to be put down, it seems like she had quite a miserable time with all of the nerve damage. It is always a fine line in determining when we should put a pet down, but if a dog is unable to walk that is pushing that line pretty close.

i read about the story before i was hoping she would be able to have a normal life again but i am glad to heard that she did have a loving home the last year of her life

I'm glad Cookie had found a loving forever home during her last months. I just do not understand her original owners' cruelty toward another living being

Thank you to the person who had the heart to care for this baby. The other owner was probably the cause of the problem.....people do stupid stuff to their pets when they themselves are doing stupid stuff!

Very sad. Thank goodness for the second owners giving his a good life toward the end. Hopefully, the first owner will be charged with animal cruelty and given many years of jail time; also injest him with his filty habit so all he can do is be a vegetable.

This story really hits home for me, as I live near where this event took place. It just absolutely breaks my heart, and my only comfort is that this little girl is in a better place.

Thanks so much for the update. I remember first hearing about this story on Zootoo and am sad to hear that Cookie has now passed. So sad to hear but I do hope that Cookie is feeling much better now that she is in a better place.

Why doesn't this surprise me that another innocent animal died and/or suffered from the hardcore drug use that is all over SW Michigan... This is so sad and reminds me of my favorite shelter dog, Wizard, who ultimately had to be put down from the lasting effects of either a meth lab and chemical burns and/or being dragged from a truck and beat, we'll never know, because thankfully, his owner was arrested.

I'm so sad to hear of Cookie dying. At least she was loved in the end and one has to believe that a creator who made us and our pets will forever care for them in heaven.

Man, that poor dog. And to think, even after all that abuse, animals still love and trust humans. It is so sad how cruel people can be!
