I shake my head that we even gave them the Olympics.
We definitely need to do an emargo on China, but we'd hardly have any products since nearly everything is imported from there.

We cannot be so quick judge other countries and its citizens, just because their way of life is different from the one we live. Someone said in their post that she stands up for the people that have no voice, no matter where someone lives – THEY HAVE VOICE, it just depends how they use it. We also have to be careful when we say that they are suppressed people. Suppressed according to whom? The only people that can say that is the people that lived there, we cannot voice our opinion on something we don’t know. We all blame the government of China, for the way they treat their citizens, animals, and so on, yet we all will be shopping sometime this week, and buying items made in China, which in fact is supporting the gov. we are so against. Is there something wrong with this picture, or is it me?
The next remark I found foolish is that someone said that most people in China only make $1 per day. We cannot compare what we make to what they make – it’s a different country. Their way of life is different, different prices, different expenses. Now let take look at our way of life. Yes we make more per month, but we also spend more, we have to pay for mortgage, car payment, health ins. life ins., this tax and that tax, I think most of you get the point. Its not what someone makes, it’s what is left at the end of the month. We think we have freedom, yet we are prisoners of our own depth, and the growing depth of out gov.

In a better world, people would be allowed to adopt spayed/neuter cats. Those cats that were ill to begin with or unadoptable would be given a painless injection to send them to the Rainbow Bridge.
But we are talking about China, where what the bureaucrats want come ahead of everything, including people and animals. The people have no rights.

And lastly, while the government is certainly in the wrong for the stray cat policy, they are doing an admirable job in the extremely difficult circumstances of the wake of the devastating earthquake. Let's remember how poorly our own government did in the face of natural disasters within our borders. Far more people were affected in this disaster than in Katrina, and the survivors are scattered over a vast area covering remote, rural, hard to reach communities. Rather than criticizing, maybe you could do something positive and support an aid organization such as World Vision.
Try taking some positive action rather than simply judging an entire country. Hatred, ignorance and disgust never result in positive changes in the world; however, compassion, understanding and empathy can make our world a much better place for us all.

But seriously, if you are an avid reader of Gini's posts and have followed them through the months, you will realize that she is one of the least harsh ZooTooers--she is one of the very few who stand up for everyone and everything, even people who are "different" from her and have absolutely no connection to her. You don't have to look like her (ie., white Caucasian), hold the same passport/citizenship as her (ie., American), speak the same language as her, even have to have met her for her to come in defence of you for the simple fact that you are another fellow HUMAN BEING. She has strongly and consistently tried to make other ZooTooers feel compassion where there is none. Kudos to Gini for having the bravery to stand up to the pack mentality that is ZooToo and defend people who aren't even present on this messageboard to defend themselves!!!

Does that sound like I am approving of animal cruelty? I have repeatedly said that the treatment of these cats is WRONG. It's a long way to go, however, from condemning the actions of a small percentage of China to condemning the every one of the 1.3 billion person population. And I even say that we should not condemn every one of those who did take wrong actions (like the teachers) with out understanding the circumstances leading to their actions, and the mindset they in which they have been encompassed their whole lives. You said "they have TVs, internet, books and they are more that capable to educate them self's", but as people who have lived in Communist countries would tell you, the government controls even these outlets of information. And many do not have access to these outlets. Perhaps it is you who needs to educate yourself.
When it comes to compassion for our fellow human beings, even the ones who have taken wrong actions, (and who hasn't take a wrong action), there is no reasoning away our obligation to try to understand their motivation. No actions take place in a void; there is always a context. We must see that context because when it comes to compassion, there is no "other hand". It is always the right thing.

You are right, though- no living thing deserves such a terribly cruel death. It is appalling that the Chinese government is trying to take care of its problem in this way, and there is no excuse. But you are probably hesitant to draw the genocide analogy because you know in your heart that there is a difference between this and genocide, and know instinctively how insensitive that analogy really is.
This is a terrible situation- I am not downplaying that at all. I am fine with you calling it mass murder. Genocide, however, rises to an entirely separate level of horror.
