Atlanta Woman Accused of Killing Puppies

Browse News

Atlanta – A 20 year-old University of Georgia student faces felony charges in the beating death of 7 puppies.

Officials said the 6 to 8 week-old dogs were found dead in a box behind a local Ellenwood convenience store.

Ashley Council allegedly called Athens-Clarke County Animal Control the morning of September 8th to ask if she could surrender 7 puppies – and the rep. she spoke with told her they would take the dogs.

But just hours later, the bruised and bloodied corpses of dogs matching the description from the call were found. The UGA sophomore's name and address were on the box containing the bodies.

In an interview Tuesday with The Red and Black newspaper, Council said “Whatever happened was unintentional...this isn't something I'd ever do.“

The UGA student does part-time clerical work at the University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital – but school representatives say she has no contact with animals.

Council's been suspended from her position pending an investigation. She also faces up to 5 years in prison and $15,000 dollars in fines per felony account.

According to animal control officials, she owns three other dogs, one of which was adopted from an Athens-Clarke County shelter. That dog was spayed and is not related to the puppies.

at the point the student called in for the surrender-she took responsibility of these helpless, innocent puppies. she is obviously not mentally sound and has cruelty flowing through her veins.not only does she need plenty of jail time but needs to be evaluated by professionals. god forbid she has children. debra

How can they say this was unintentional! A litter of puppies don't accidentally get beaten to death! This girl has some serious issues and I hope that she gets the maximum penalties allowed. Sick, sick, sick person.

A little more info and proof would be fine, but I still question why she left 7 puppies in a box outside the shelter and didn't personally turn them over to the shelter? At the very least this woman has POOR JUDGMENT! At worst, she is an ANIMAL KILLER (and a dumb one at that leaving her name on the box) who should be locked away for a while to think about what she did!

"whatever happened was unintentional" ... what does that mean??? too bad the old testament "eye for an eye" is deemed obsolete. good grief.

What a horrible thing - when they KNOW what happened that person should be held FULLY responsible.

A LITTLE MORE INFO AND PROOF WOULD BE GOOD TO MAKE A BETTER DECISION ON WHAT ACTION TO TAKE.

Pups are dumped off in boxes behind stores and gas stations all the time. Its a sick fact, especially when there is a shelter willing to take them in. If she really is at fault here, I hope this woman isn't allowed to keep any of her pets, and that she is never allowed to work with animals.

I agree. I wonder if they took her other pets and is she going to be aloud to stay in school?

Personally I think that she should go to jail for longer. But in most cases no one ever goes to jail for doing things like that.

This just doesnt make sense! Why would she call to have the puppies picked up, and then turn around and do this??? Someone that would do anything like this would do anything! Hopefully she will never be able to be around nor own any pets at all ever again!! Its hard to tell what someone like this would do! What if her next target was a small child! She needs help!!

This is a devistating situation. If she didn't do the crime who did? and why would they be the same dogs that she wanted to surrender. Sounds to me that there is definantly something missing in this story and hopefully they get to the bottom of it so they can press charges against the murderer.

There is no excuse or reason for doing this. First this girl needs her head examined. No really she needs psych help and needs to serve time and never ever be around animals again!! Who's next an unwanted child?

What is wrong with people?!?! She asked about surrender and then she allegedly killed the 7 puppies?! Seems to me she won't get away with this...."The UGA sophomore's name and address were on the box containing the bodies." .....so sad....

This sounds like we need more information. Obviously, whoever harmed the puppies deserves to be held legally responsible. I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt until we hear from her... it could be she was letting someone else drop off the puppies and they are the guilty party... will keep watching to hear more.

I truely hope that she has a good explanation for what happened to the puppies. It does not make sense that she called to turn them in and then turned around and killed them?
Something is up here.

I agree. Maybe the truth will come out in the end. If she did do it, she sure wanted to get caught, leaving your whereabouts with the evidence. If only we could be so lucky with the other cases of abuse and murder in this world.
