Atlanta Woman Accused of Killing Puppies

Atlanta – A 20 year-old University of Georgia student faces felony charges in the beating death of 7 puppies.

Officials said the 6 to 8 week-old dogs were found dead in a box behind a local Ellenwood convenience store.

Ashley Council allegedly called Athens-Clarke County Animal Control the morning of September 8th to ask if she could surrender 7 puppies – and the rep. she spoke with told her they would take the dogs.

But just hours later, the bruised and bloodied corpses of dogs matching the description from the call were found. The UGA sophomore's name and address were on the box containing the bodies.

In an interview Tuesday with The Red and Black newspaper, Council said “Whatever happened was unintentional...this isn't something I'd ever do.“

The UGA student does part-time clerical work at the University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital – but school representatives say she has no contact with animals.

Council's been suspended from her position pending an investigation. She also faces up to 5 years in prison and $15,000 dollars in fines per felony account.

According to animal control officials, she owns three other dogs, one of which was adopted from an Athens-Clarke County shelter. That dog was spayed and is not related to the puppies.

What the heck is wrong with people?? How can anyone hurt defenseless puppies? I hope that they take her other dogs away from her. She doesn't deserve them. What she does deserve is the full 5 years in prison and the $15,000 fine.

What the hell is wrong with people these days? Just take the pups in already! This just makes me sick! People like this should be banned from ever owning another animal.

who knows maybe she didn't kill those puppies, then again maybe like others have said she let somebody else take them to drop them off and then they killed them but either way it is still her fault and she should get the maximum sentence for it

Why did she have to kill them. It really hurts my heart to know that someone could do that. They never even had a chance to be. I am currently raising three kittens that I have had since they were hours old. Their mother died in birth, and someone brought them to the shelter. (Lumpkin County Animal Shelter, Dahlonega GA) I am a youth apprentice there. I told the man who brought in the kittens I would take them. They are now two weeks and two days old. They make me happier than anything else ever will. I do not know why some one could kill poor little puppies when there are people out there willing to take them and love them, like the people at my shelter.

Our community animal shelter has "drop-off boxes" outside the shelter. People can anonymously leave animals there anytime, day or night. I know this sounds heartless, but it is much better than people feeling they have no options and dumping them in the wilderness or killing them.

I think what this lady did was wrong if in fact it was her thats kinda sick because if you had the chance to give them to the shelter why wouldnt you?????????

I don't know why she killed the poor puppies, if she was going to give them away. I think that it is so sick and mean to kill inocent living creatures. I feel so bad.

Take her rights to ever own a animal again! Sounds like she had no patience and no heart. She was probably too lazy to take them in. I just can't imagine how anyone can be so cruel to a helpless living thing! Maybe the penalties should be stronger.

5 Years is not enough. I am outraged that she can brutally kill these animal and all she gets is 5 years. Maybe 5 years for each animal would be more like it. I don't care where she goes to school or where she works .... treating animals this way makes you a major creep in my books.

The government needs to start punishing people that do theses kinds of things. The poor innocent animals that suffer at the hands of deranged people need to be heard. The article says she owns three other dogs. They should be removed from her house immediately!! What a disgrace.

This is horrific and disgusting. They say people who mistreat and abuse aniamls often go on to abuse people/children. I can only hope she gets the maximum penalty.

This story has all of the holes of swiss cheese. Her "whatever happened..." comments is compelling. What we do not know is her living arrangement. Is she the only on ein the home, or is there a boyfirend or siblings or anybody else? She may be trying to protect a person. If this is the case then she is still a little wrong but in the best way.
The venom of many of this postings is a little off putting. How can we ask so many questions about what he have read and still attack this woman so decisively and completely.
Whomever did whatever happened we need to pray for justice.

This woman should never be allowed to have another animal. When spay/neutering is the answer to all the unwanted animals in the world. So sad. If this woman did this she would hurt human beings as well. Studies have showed this time and time again.

More investigation should be done into this matter. Something just doesn't add up with this story. The person or persons responsible for the death of these puppies should be held responsible. Hopefully the authorites will get the the bottom of this case and prosecute the correct people involved.

I think that peoples punishments for the mistreatment of animals should be an eye for an eye...you beat them you get beat, you drown them you get drowned, etc.

I am so glad to see a state that takes animal abuse seriously. Abusing or killing innocent animals should be a felony. Congratulations to the state for pursuing this serious matter....and shame on the woman that beat those puppies to death. I hope she gets what she deserves.

This most definitely needs to be thoroughly investigated. If the alleged facts prove to be true, she needs to go to jail and be psychologically tested and receive the help she so desparately needs. Beating and killing dogs is absolutely inexcusable.

It doesnt make sense that she would call to turn them in and kill them. Yes they say at the end that she owns three dogs and adopted 1 from a shelter but I dont beleive that there isnt more to this story.

Something is fishy here. I believe that I smell a rat. They should investigate the issue further, before jumping to conclusions. Whoever hurt the pups nees to be punished.

They need to do a thorough investigation and find out what happened to these puppies. If she was going to turn them over to the shelter, why would she turn around and brutaly kill them?

Is this woman insane. How can you call someone to take in some puppies and before someone can get to them to find them a home, she kills them. The dog that stills remains her needs to be taken away and gave to someone else with some since and with a heart. How would she feel if she needed help and before she got it someone came in and hurt her. THAT WOULDN'T FEEL TO GOOD NOW WOULD IT. I think she should be put in prison so she can suffer because those puppies deserved to live just like everyone else do. What is this world coming to today?

THE LADY SHOULD HAVE WAITED UNTIL ANIMAL CONTROL COULD ARRIVE. I'M NOT SAYING THAT SHE COMMITTED THIS ACTION BUT IF SHE HAD CONFINED THEM IN A SECURE LOCATION UNTIL ANIMAL CONTROL ARRIVED THEM THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN HUMANLY BEEN DEALT WITH INSTEAD OF BEING CRUELY DISPOSED OF. SOME PEOPLE JUST DON'T TAKE THE TIME TO THINK. I WONDER WHAT SHE WOULD DO TODAY IF SHE COULD CHANGE THINGS.

Somebody needs to whack that girl upside HER head. How can someone do that to puppies??? The shelter in Athens TOLD her to bring the puppies to them. She is yet another example of a sorry person. How can you NOT intentionally beat 7 puppies in the head! Own up to what you did and quit making excuses for being an evil person! What an embarassment to the University of Georgia.

She should be charged with abandonment at the least. She is the one that called and therefore was responsible for following up on finding care for them. If she left it to someone else - she is still responsible. Puppies can be abandoned without being beaten and bloodied. There is a killer lose in the area - maybe even her.

There is no explanation for what she did. She needs to go to prison, fined and ordered to psych consults for the next 10 years. Imagine what she would do to children? Scarry!!!!

We definitely need more information here. I don't understand her comment about whatever happened was unintentional. There are so many cruel, sick people out there; so much satanic influence. Hopefully the truth will come out because the person responsible needs a stiff punishment and should not be allowed around animals in the future.

I would get more information and interview friends/neighbors who may have more details. If she was indeed guilty, the ax....well whatever the law allows.
