Atlanta Woman Accused of Killing Puppies

Atlanta – A 20 year-old University of Georgia student faces felony charges in the beating death of 7 puppies.

Officials said the 6 to 8 week-old dogs were found dead in a box behind a local Ellenwood convenience store.

Ashley Council allegedly called Athens-Clarke County Animal Control the morning of September 8th to ask if she could surrender 7 puppies – and the rep. she spoke with told her they would take the dogs.

But just hours later, the bruised and bloodied corpses of dogs matching the description from the call were found. The UGA sophomore's name and address were on the box containing the bodies.

In an interview Tuesday with The Red and Black newspaper, Council said “Whatever happened was unintentional...this isn't something I'd ever do.“

The UGA student does part-time clerical work at the University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital – but school representatives say she has no contact with animals.

Council's been suspended from her position pending an investigation. She also faces up to 5 years in prison and $15,000 dollars in fines per felony account.

According to animal control officials, she owns three other dogs, one of which was adopted from an Athens-Clarke County shelter. That dog was spayed and is not related to the puppies.

Looks like someone needs a complete psychological exam. She is a dangerous person, more and many are in danger if they don't take action against her.

Yeah I expected the story to say the shelter turned her down for dropping them off, which led to the brutal killing. Doesn't make any sense.

Anyone who can harm animals, let alone baby animals has some severe issues. She is a danger.

Like many of the the others who commented, I'm not quite sure what to make of this. All I know is I wish that animals didn't have to know the kind of suffering that so many of them endure at the hands of the cruel and careless.

So the one dog was not related to the puppies. But what about the other 2 dogs. If the pups were only 6-8 weeks old, mommy dog would still have showing that she had pups (hanging teets). Somebody should be able to be a witness for or against Ashley Council on whether her dogs had the pups.

This could also be a set up to get her in trouble. We get boxes in all the time at work with folks names and address on them. Somebody could have found the box and then used it and her name.

I still say, where is the mommy dog.

This story sounds fishy to me-based on where she works and the fact that the shelter was going to take them.Sounds like someone else did it and framed her.

Could have been a boyfriend that beat them, for example. Maybe she didn't get them out of the house fast enough for him.

Unintentional? That's ridicuulous. I hope that if found guilty she gets her cfelony counts as consective not concurred sentences.

Poor puppies. What is wrong with people??? This woman has serious issues. I hope she gets the maximum penalty, and if she ever does get out of prison, she should not be allowed to owwn animals ever again.

It's all a little strange to me. If you were going to kill something why in the world would you leave your name and address on a box you put them in. If she did do it she needs some serious help.

Something doesn't sound right. She finds a place to take the puppies and drops them off dead? It sounds more like someone wanted to sell the puppies and when they found out she had given them away killed them for spite.

Those poor puppies. I hope they find and punish the person responsible for the violent death these puppies suffered. I'm not sure this woman did it. I do think, however, that she probably knows who did it.

i hope they find her, or whoever did it guilty, and when they do, i hope they get to rot in jail and pay loads of money so that they have to suffer for what they did.

i hope this woman is charged as much as possible. she could have taken the puppies to a humane society or ac. she had already made the call. she could have had them come and pick the puppies up. i hope she is not ever able to work with anything doing with animals. i don't understand why she did this. i think she needs help. i hope she gets it.

So sad that this happened. She has been charged but keep in mind, it may not have been her that did it. Maybe she was trying to help rescue the pups and had planned to turn them over to shelter. Maybe she was owner and running late for work so her friend offered to take them to shelter for her but did not. Certainly, she knows something that could be helpful to the investigation but they need to make sure the right person is punished for this horrible crime.

This woman is sick and has no soul. She needs to be punished for her actions. GA needs to continue to update their animal cruelty laws to make them one of the best in the country. I don't think Athens even has any tethering laws, leash laws, etc. They need to work on this.

Whoever did this was cruel and deserves the maximum punishment. This woman has been charged but remember, she is innocent until proven guilty. There may be other explanations -- such as her neighbor said that he/she would love to have the puppies so she gave them to neighbor and neighbor did it. Her statement about it being unintentional would make sense in that scenario -- it was not her intent that the puppies be killed. She could be in shock that the puppies were killed and even moreso that she is facing felony charges. I say all if this just to remind everyone that she has not been convicted. It is tragic that these poor little puppies were killds and if she is convicted, they need to punish her to the maximum extent possible but we all need to remember that she has not been convicted.

there is a few ways to think on this story, maybe there is someoneelse involved maybe she tried to get them into the shelter before they were hurt and killed but unfortunitly it was to late, or aybe she is the type of person to hurt animals and dump enough to leave her info on the box. It is hard to try to make a finla decision on this, we need to find the all story.
