Atlanta Woman Accused of Killing Puppies

Atlanta – A 20 year-old University of Georgia student faces felony charges in the beating death of 7 puppies.

Officials said the 6 to 8 week-old dogs were found dead in a box behind a local Ellenwood convenience store.

Ashley Council allegedly called Athens-Clarke County Animal Control the morning of September 8th to ask if she could surrender 7 puppies – and the rep. she spoke with told her they would take the dogs.

But just hours later, the bruised and bloodied corpses of dogs matching the description from the call were found. The UGA sophomore's name and address were on the box containing the bodies.

In an interview Tuesday with The Red and Black newspaper, Council said “Whatever happened was unintentional...this isn't something I'd ever do.“

The UGA student does part-time clerical work at the University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital – but school representatives say she has no contact with animals.

Council's been suspended from her position pending an investigation. She also faces up to 5 years in prison and $15,000 dollars in fines per felony account.

According to animal control officials, she owns three other dogs, one of which was adopted from an Athens-Clarke County shelter. That dog was spayed and is not related to the puppies.

There has to be more to this story. This lady is obviously sick and demented. I think a psych evaluation a some good jail time with no bond are in order before trial. Hopefully the DA and judge will not take this case lightly.

What a horrible thing to do! The shelter was willing to take the puppies from her, so I don't understand why she felt that beating them to death was a better option. One of the three dogs is spayed, but the other two were probably the parents. Gee, maybe you had puppies because you didn't bother to alter your dogs? With a job at a veterinary facility, she could have gotten discounts for that sort of thing. Something just isn't right here.

That's really sickening. Why call if you were going to kill them? Since this article is dated October could we please get an update on what the outcome was for this woman? Are we missing some key information here?

I tried to search for any new information on the Internet and could not find anything NEW. The puppies were "violently beaten" to death. I guess maybe the news is quiet because a trial is pending? There are many internet groups and internet petitions involving this story.

This woman's dogs should be removed from her until she gets the psychiatric care she seems to desparately need. What sane person would call beating animals to death "unintentional"?? Beating to death means picking up an object and striking a defenseless animal with it until it dies. What about that was "unintentional"? Please.

i dont get it. she has to be an idiot. even put the dead dogs ina box with her name on it. through her butt in jail, indefinately, and save the dogs she still has in her care.

She is dispicable!! How can she say it was unintentional? Why didn't she take them straight to the shelter where they told her they would take them? I don't understand how people could do that to the innocent!

This woman is guilty! She had to have killed them or someone killed them for her. I hope she gets prison for this...mean, cruel horrible woman!

I think that she should be suspended from the whole school for doing that, not just her job. And the three dogs that she had should be taken away from her, too. She certainly doesn't deserve an animal, she deserves to have her butt tossed in prison.

Gesh... I don't understand why she would do that when the shelter told her they would take them. What a sick woman, she should not even be in college for anything to do with animals!! It's a good thing she will never make it to be a vet! I would not want her handling my animal!!

disgusting. Her dogs should be taken from her. How can you beat 7 helpless puppies to death? What kind of person does that?

The school should also penalize her for her actions. More so than just losing her job.
