I have seen more articles on this lately. I also posted that my mom and my sister do this in their community with their dogs. I would love to start this at my library. I have not heard about using a horse though. That would be very unique but I can see some complications with bringing a horse. I think a dog or cat would be much easier.

This is another situation where animals can not only be our friends and family members, but can also help children who may be shy or not confident, to learn to relax and let learning come at their own speed. It never stops amazing me just how important animals are in our lives and how we are learning even more ways for them to help children and adults. I am so thankful for the animals in my life and that my parents allowed me to have dogs and cats while growing up.

What a cool concept. I have to agree, animals love the attention and most animals (my parrots aside) give unconditional love so there is no criticism, need to worry about not being perfect...just practice and the ability to develop pure pleasure from reading.
Great idea and something that parents can use with their children also.

I love this story! Any good pet owner know what wonderful listeners animals are. I'm glad that their talent is being put to such good use. Children, especially seem to understand animals and have a real respect and love for them and I think animals feel the same for children. In this case, both the animals and the children are benefiting from each other. It warms my heart.

Little Shelter should get involved in something like this in the local schools. What great publicity for the shelter and great help for young readers.

Animals make us less self- conscious. We are not being judged by them. We can make a mistake and they won't laugh. Just about every person could strike up a repoire with an animal.

Wonderful idea and I hope it helps for kids to develop a respect for animals at a young age.
