I read a similar article about turtles, guess if humans messed it up, humans need to fix it.

We've done so much to destroy their natural habitats & their migration routes. Its nice to see people taking the time to help them get to their destination safely.

I agree. It is a great thing these people are doing and I hope tunnels are built in many of these areas since it sounds like they are beneficial.

I saw footage of this on the news last night. It's pretty cool that people would go to these lengths to help keep these critters going, and it's fitting since we have done so much to shrink their habitats.

I think building the tunnels is a great idea. Hopefully they'll get a bigger grant to fund this.

This is so neat. In Keene, NH, they close part of one of the streets so they can cross.

This is happening all over the country, people trying to find a way for animals to cross busy roads. Some have people carry them across, some are building tunnels under the road which barriers guide the animal to. Its a sad situation, but there are people trying to make a difference

Here they built bridges over the interstate - with trees and lots of foliage for the animals including deer to cross... There are 3 such bridges along Rt 78.

I've rescued turtles crossing the road, but it never occurred to me to even look for a salamander. I'll keep an eye out on my early morning walks.

Why did the salamander cross the road? Okay, okay...I just couldn't resist. Actually, this is very interesting. It never occurred to me that people would assist in salamander crossings. Although, I have heard stories of people assisting turtles make it safely across the road in parts of New Jersey.

People wonder why go to the trouble? I wonder why not? Those little critters are here for a purpose. While I'm not a big reptile lover, they are living creatures and deserve to live just like people. If this many people were getting run over, the road would be closed. Tunnels sound like they would help, but I would think the frogs and salamanders might still need some help.

since this occurs every year maybe they could close the road during the season. it is such a shame. i know most try to avoid them but then there are those who get a perverse pleasure in killing them

sometimes - they are so small too.... once I slowed down for some ducks and the car behind me didn't - so my car got hit? maybe if they only cross after dark - they could close the road? good idea.

I would love to see tunnels built, so many animals lose their lives because of urban sprawl, this has been the crossing for MANY years and since we have taken over we need to do something to make it easier for them to cross.. we own them that

This is a great story, it wonderful that people are getting out there to help these creatures. It is really nice to hear that they are taking their children. Young people need to know that t protecting our planet is extremely important. Getting them excited in something like this is a great starting point.
