The picture that goes with the story says it all. Not only was Brisco a brave K9 unit member; he was deeply loved by his handler. I'm glad he received a hero's burial.

On a purely personal level, I don't really 'get' the 21 gun salute. But, if those in uniform are really moved by it, then I am glad the dog got the appropriate tribute for having served in uniform.

Brisco deserved the 21 gun salute because he was a hero. The dogs work just as hard, if not harder than people and they don't expect much in return. They don't think about the sacrifices they make either, they just do their job. Brisco was a hero.

This would be so devastating to have to go through. I can't imagine how everyone is feeling. I hope that there is quite a penalty when a police dog dies from a criminals stupidity.

A 21 gun salute is a wonderful way to honor Brisco. Having a ceremony to include other k-9's and handlers is very helpful to Sgt. Johnson. Brisco earned this honor when he died on duty.
