OKLAHOMA – According to the AP, Brisco the police dog was killed by a truck last week, as he pursued a suspect across I-35 in Oklahoma City.
The 6 year-old Dutch Shepherd was the first sheriff's office K9 killed in the line of duty. And to honor him, shots were fired from the 21 guns that salute a fallen hero.
A ceremony was held Tuesday, attended by police dogs and handlers from other agencies. Before hand, Brisco's body was laid out in for viewing at the cemetery grounds.
Sgt. Kevin Johnson, Brisco's handler for the last four years, says the dog was part of the family.
