Animal Welfare League of Alvin Helping Shelter

posted 8 years ago

The organization is dedicated to helping the animals at the City of Alvin Animal Shelter. It was formed in 2007 to assist the shelter in obtaining funds for equipment, medical care for adoptable animals, and to build a new, badly needed shelter. Another goal is to help educate the public on pet laws, pet care and pet overpopulation.

The organization is not a rescue group, but does include information on area groups in it's newsletters and at fundraisers, such as the 2007 Paws & Claws Rolling Thunder Motorcycle rally last October.

Volunteers help at the shelter and perform fundraisers. 2008 plans include pet adoptions at area stores, possibly starting a foster care group for shelter animals, working with the City of Alvin to design a new shelter and starting a web site.

We encourage everyone to stop by the shelter at 550 HWY 6 in Alvin to adopt a new family member, volunteer or to see how much a new shelter is needed.

Anyone interested in joining the group can contact Sue at (713) 419-6729 or

Pros: A much needed organization to help Alvin's homeless animals.

Cons: The group needs more active members to reach their goals.
