Mazuri pig food

posted 5 years ago

I found this guinea pig food after realizing that the food WalMart sells is bad for pigs! The Wal-Mart food labeled for guinea pigs contains nuts, seeds, etc that are unnecessary nutritionally. This food is of ok quality and contains better ratios of Calcium and Potassium than rabbit food. Consult www.guinealynx.info for more information on what foods are the BEST to feed your piglet! The pigs may not taste the difference, but their body will start showing it via hair, nail, tooth growth.

Pros: not too expensive, fairly readily available

Cons: could be a little better nutritionally

Huge Bag of Pellets

posted 6 years ago

I've only used Mazuri guinea pig pellets one time. I have a feed store near my home and decided to see if they had guinea pig food. This is the only brand they carried and I thought I'd give this 25 lb. bag a try since I have a lot of guinea pigs. Freshness became my first issue since the bag was not reclosable so I emptied it into a plastic tub with lid. My guinea pigs weren't thrilled with it. They ate it but a lot of it was left in their bowls. My biggest problem with it was that it's alfalfa based which can lead to guinea pig bladder and kidney stones. I think I'll stick to timothy based pellets instead.

Pros: economical large 25 lb. bag

Cons: alfalfa based

Good Food

posted 5 years ago

I think this food is great because it has lots of good stuff in it for guinea pigs. There are also no seeds in it which is good because guinea pigs could choke on them.

Pros: Great guinea pig food

Cons: it is a bit expensive

I have 3 cats and they love this food. They eat less and walk away with a full belly. Eating less means pooping less and less litter. All around a great choice for my cats.
