Great for picky eaters

posted 5 years ago

My chinchilla is a particularly picky eater, and tends to avoid consuming pellets typically found as the main component in chinchilla/pocket pets foods. Charlie chin is made up of mostly dried fruits and nuts, and the pellets are particularly large. Most chinchilla feeds I've come across are made up of a typical smaller pellet found in most pocket pet feeds, the con to this is chinchillas like to grasp their feed with the "hands" and it's difficult for the pet to do this with smaller pellets, making those found in the Charlie Chin diet ideal.
The down side is my chinchilla, who I can free feed on other diets, now tends to engorge himself a bit more so I have to feed him more regulated servings, and despite the large pellet size, he tends to pick out all the treats and leave the pellets. This could eventually cause vitamin and mineral deficiencies, as the pellets are an important component in the balance of the deit. To counteract this I typically mix the Charlie Chin diet with a second balanced chinchilla diet that's main componant is pellets, and I try to make sure he's eaten most of the pellets before I give him more. This allows me to make sure he's eating something and maintain a relatively balanced diety, but not engorging himself on treats either. I've never had any problems with diarrhea or constipation with this diet.

Pros: Palatable for chinchillas that are picky about the food they eat.

Cons: They do tend to engorge themselves a bit more with this diet.

This is her favorite food!

posted 6 years ago

Chilla loves the different items like dried carrots and hay. This gives her the variety to choose what she's hungry for at the moment so she's not bored with plain pellets all the time. It is nutritionally balanced to give her all the vitamins and minerals that she needs to stay healthy and happy.

Pros: She eats every last bite.

Cons: :)

Variety for a picky chinchilla!

posted 6 years ago

Monty is very picky about his food, he is not a fan of the chinchilla food that just has pellets, so the Charlie Chinchilla carrot and fruit gives him just the variety and nutrition he needs. He never wastes a carrot or raisin and eats every piece of hay that comes with the serving which leads me to believe he would give this 5 stars!

Pros: healthy, variety

Cons: i've only seen the small 1.5 lb bags available

Variety!

posted 5 years ago

I feed this to all of the chinchillas. It's got a nice variety and the chinchillas like to pick through and eat their favorite bits first, but they always finish it off! Of course you still need to give your chinchillas hay to keep their digestive system working properly, but this food does cover all the other dietary needs.

Pros: variety, healthy, nutritional, readily available, affordable

Cons: still need to feed hay

Good variety

I really like this food for my chinchilla. The price is reasonable and the variety is fabulous! It is more than just pellets. There is dried veggies and other snacks already mixed into the food.

Pros: Good variety

Cons: none
