I have been buying Kaytee birdseed for quite some time.

What I love about the safflower and thistle seeds is that the squirrels don't eat it.

The safflower seed is constantly being eaten by the cardinals, chickadees and others. The mourning doves eat the seed that lands below the feeder.

I love having a constant view of these beautiful birds and the symphony they perform for us while sitting out on the deck!

Pros: The sqiurrels won't eat it

Cons: pricey but worth it

After feeding sunflower seeds for years and dealing with squirrels, raccoons, possum, skunks, pigeons, I switched to Safflower seed in my feeding. Songbirds don't like it as much a sunflower seeds, but mammals don't like it at all. While it's more expensive than sunflower seeds, it last much longer because only birds will eat it.

Pros: A birdseed that only birds will eat

Cons: cost

I've had really good results with using Safflower seed. Finches, Grosbeaks, Doves, Chickadees and Nuthatches really love it. Squirrels, Blackbirds and Grackels dislike Safflower seed and that makes me happy.

Pros: Birds love it, "pests" don't
