Do NOT feed live with this in the area!

posted 7 years ago

My room mate has a snake that I care for when he is gone. I love the creature, but he feeds live, and I hate feeding the cute miceys to him. I changed the cage liner and put this bedding in thinking it was an upgrade from the fake green plastic mat/grass thing that was the flooring in the tank. It was dirty so I scrapped it and put this stuff in. When I fed him a few days later the poor snake kept getting this stuff in his mouth, and even a fleck in the eye. No good, considering it was going to have to wait a day for the snake to get out of feeding mode and I could feasibly retreive the speck without getting my hand mistaken for lunch. Luckily, it fell out on its own, and he seemed to suffer no ill effects from what he ingested. Still, I was much more comfortable when I replaced the bedding for some absorbant green spongy cage lining .(wish I could remember the name so I could review it!)

Pros: Highly absorbant!

Cons: When striking at prey, it gets in the mouth and eyes if they miss!

Decent bedding

posted 7 years ago

This is preferable to the bark type bedding that was first recommended. Our snake seems to like the way she can hide in this and stay warmer. We haven't experienced any pieces sticking to the snake, but it can get in the water dish and goes everywhere when you take it out during cleaning. Still, I would recommende it over bark type beddings.

Pros: Clean and protective

Cons: Small pieces can go everywhere

It's ok.

posted 6 years ago

The bedding was ok. I used it for a while and the snake seemed to like it, but he requires pretty high humidity and this bedding is so dry that it makes it difficult to keep the humidity level up. Also, it stuck to him and the mice when I fed him. On the plus side, it looks nice and doesn't require much maintenance.

Pros: The snake liked to burrow in it.

Cons: It stuck to him and absorbed too much of the humidity.
