I really like using these plain screen aquarium covers and a regular glass aquarium. They come in many sizes and can be used for a variety of glass aquarium sizes. I like using these for reptiles as well as small animals like gerbils or mice and hermit crabs. The plastic containers can be chewed on by small "furries" and also sometimes absorbs chemicals from waste products, holding odors or getting discolored or marred. The water bottle can be hung over the side, or if you look for the right design it can be hung right from the screen using a modified large size paper clip or other hanger. I prefer to use these lids with "cage clips" that can be purchased separately no matter what species is housed. That way there is not chance anyone can accidentally escape, and listening for the sound they make when you close the lid securely ensures you have properly closed the lid. These are very durable, easily washed and also hold up fine if used with things like heat lamps.

I have three Fire Bellied Toads that love to climb and jump. I have a screen covering the aquarium so they cannot climb or jump out. Also, I have a light that heats the aquarium and could burn them if they touch it. The screen also stops them from getting anywhere near it, though. Last, the screen allows air to easily pass through. I highly recommend using a screen to cover amphibian aquariums.
