Non-toxic substrate for invertabrates

posted 6 years ago

I use this product for my tarantulas. Comes right out of the bag and is very easy to use. It is loose, but you can mix it in with other substrates and tarantulas have no problem lining their burrows with webbing to prevent collapses. It is great for moisture loving species, just make sure to remove prey remains to prevent pests from taking over. I have had mite problems, but that can be prevented by drying the substrate out or adding isopods (pillbugs)to clean up remains.

Pros: retains water, easy to use, non-toxic!

Cons: loose, can attract mites and mold

MY daughter used this peat moss in her lizards cage for a short time. It caused a gnat investation. We did not like it. It looked nice and natural though

Pros: none

Cons: draws in gnats
