Beatrix Potter's books are among the best for children, in my opinion. I was raised on this one (Peter Rabbit) among others. I was raised on this book, and I have always adored it. The writing is lovely, the stories are great, and the illustration is lovely. I think that this book is important too because it teaches compassion for animals. Like "Black Beauty" by Anna Sewell, the "Tale of Peter Rabbit" tells the story from an animal's perspective, showing that animals have feelings and experiences. I think it's important for kids to learn this young, to learn compassion for animals. I know that books like this and movies like "Bambi" had a profound effect on me as a child, teaching me that animals are to be respected and treated well.

I had a tiny illustrated copy of The Tale of Peter Rabbit when I was a child, and I kept that book for ages until it somehow got water damage. I suspect that I liked the pictures more than the story about the adventurous little rabbit who goes exploring and gets in trouble for eating too much from the farmer's garden, but it still charmed me.

The classic tale is definitely something to include in any animal loving child's library, and the vintage illustrations have a charm that's very different from our current bold, colour saturated culture. Maybe some kids will get the message that listening to your mother is the right thing to do!

I haven't read it in years since my son is an adult now but was hoping to read it to grandchildren someday. Nice and wholesome book.

This is one of the books that I remember from my childhood and I really loved. Now that my daughter is nearing 2 1/2 she is also fascinated with the book. Illustrations are wonderfull and it has many different animals in the story that keep her involved. It also won't drive you crazy to read every night - which I find to be an important criteria in a children's book!
