Best tool for nail trims

posted 5 years ago

I hadn't heard of using a Dremel to trim a dog's nails until I worked at a dog training/play day facility. I'd always used regular dog nail clippers and both Bella and I hated them. It was such a nice change to be able to trim her nails quickly and round them to get rid of the sharp edges that usually occurred with regular clippers. There are numerous attachments and speeds, though I typically stick to the same ones to trim nails. Though this isn't the purpose for which this tool was intended, it works great!

Pros: quick, easy, powerful

Cons: sound may scare pets

Nail Grinder

posted 5 years ago

Great for grinding nails especially on short coated dogs, but you have to be careful not to catch longer hair in the rotary tool. (Ouch!) Some recommend putting the dogs nails through a stocking to grind, but depending on the size of the nails, size of the holes, and skill of the operator- sometime this works, and sometimes you end up catching the stocking and the foot coat.

Pros: Great for dogs who don't like nail clippers

Cons: Have to be careful with long haired dogs
