Prong Collar

I was not thrilled when the instructor at obedience class suggested this collar for our large dog. But I must say--it really does the job. As soon as he knows he's got that collar on, he knows we are all business and the goofing off is over. On the down side, it's hard to get on and off sometimes and when the dog grows you have to purchase extra links to lengthen it.

Pros: gets dog's attention

Cons: hard to put on/take off/adjust

I have used these in a few dog training classes. I actually prefer this over a regular choker chain collar. I have a terrier mix and they are known to have a collapsible esophagus so the choker makes her gag rather than corrects her. With the prong collar I need very little correction for her to perform.

Pros: Works really well as a training tool

Cons: might harm if not used properly
