Worth the effort

posted 5 years ago

It took me almost an entire year to convert my cockatiel from seeds to pellets. I have learned from my ten years experience working for vets that birds who eat a pellet diet live much much longer than birds on a seed diet alone. I love the pellets because there is virtually no seed hulls thrown all over the floor around the cage. It's much healthier for the bird because with seed diets the bird picks out their favorite seeds and throws the rest out, leaving a very unbalanced diet for your bird. Pellets tend to be a little more costly but you feed less, and there is less waste, so in the long run it is actually cheaper then seed.

Pros: no waste

Cons: patience needed to convert

Now he likes it!

posted 5 years ago

Finally, after repeatedly offering this food to my bird, he has decided to eat it. The pet shop recommended pellected food and made suggestions on how to present it. Nothing worked. I finally tried putting some on paper in the bottom of his cage. He likes this and began crunching the pellets. I guess the secret is to keep trying. As to the taste question - who knows. We don't eat it!

Pros: recommended by pet shop

Cons: bird wouldn't eat

Now I get it!

posted 5 years ago

After reading Kellie's review, now I understand that it will take longer than a month to convert Chico to eating these pellets. I will follow her suggestion of not giving up, since a healthy life for my bird is my top priority.

Pros: Top notch ingredients

Cons: Bird won't eat it.
