Rubber Snaffle Bit

I originally purchased this hard rubber snaffle bit to use as a starter bit for young horses. I say hard rubber, but it is actually quite soft. For young horses it worked beautifully to help get them used to a bit and keep them very soft mouthed and willing. In fact, I'd never move them to a metal bit if they weren't being prepared for sale to people who would expect them to go in a regular snaffle. But the surprise was when a friend who had race horses saw the bit and asked if she could borrow it. She had a young filly who was rearing in the gate, backing, and refusing to go - although she galloped nicely at the farm. When switched to the softer rubber bit all her problems disappeared - apparently leaning on the metal bit was just to painful for her young mouth. I had to go buy me a new bit! LOL
Pros: very soft starter bit for young or sensitive horses
Cons: certainly wouldn't work with a hard mouthed horse
