Not bad food, but your fish probably won't eat it

posted 4 years ago

Usually my bettas get Hikari Bio-Gold, but I had some of this lying around so I gave it a try. The majority of my bettas wouldn't eat it, or if they did, would only nibble at it.

However, when I spawned my bettas and was weaning the fry off of microworms and brine shrimp, I tried crushing this up for them because the red flakes made it really easy to see how much was being put in and how much was being eaten. It took them a while before they would accept the non-live food, but now they love it. I have absolutely no problem getting them to eat it, and they're mature fish now. But, this is probably due to the fact that they were raised partly on it.

So, if you want something for a staple food for your betta, definitely go with the Hikari brand foods. But if you have young bettas and you want to try supplementing their diet with cheaper foods (some foods can get expensive!) or get them used to different food types, this is fairly good. Overall though, the only way I'd really recommend this food is for someone who's raising betta fry and wants to vary their diet.

Pros: brightly colored, so easy to see if your fish is eating it

Cons: Most bettas won't eat it

Food

Our betta seemed ok eating this. I didn't notice that it helped with his color as the item states. But it did have all the nutrients needed and the fish ate it. So this is what we used.

Pros: Fish ate it

Cons: Left water cloudy
