I know I am in the minority, but I didn't really care for the musical "Cats", and I really don't 'get' poetry either, so I was very skeptical about this book. I ended up liking it quite a bit. The cat's names are the same as in the musical, but the similarity doesn't go much farther than that. Each poem is dedicated to a specific cat and Eliot does a nice job of really creating a memorable cat character in just a page or two. Light-hearted and whimsical fun. Although this is supposed to be a children's book, I think adults enjoy it much more. Some of Eliot's word choices probably would go over the head of a young child.

Pros: Amusing poetic cat 'portraits'

Cons: Although intended for kids, it seems to appeal more to adults

Elliots book of cat poetry is fun reading and an insight into each cat's life. The musical "Cats" is based on the poetry and cats named in this book. I enjoyed it very much.
