Safechoice causes anemia

posted 5 years ago

People seem to be writing reviews about safe and sound. This is safechoice by nutrena. I thought this was great food and I was told that it was comparable to strategy. I am a vet tech and last year I had my horses at my clinic for their teeth floats and vaccines. One of my three horses is 18 so I decided to run bloodwork and it came up anemic. So just for kicks and giggles I decided to run the other two horses which are 3 and 8. Both of them came up anemic. I thought this was the greatest food because of what everyone told me. But it was not a good feed at all. I couldn't keep the weight on my horses and their coats did not look good. After switching feeds they put on weight, their coats turned very shiny, and they were not anemic. I WOULD NOT USE THESE FEED FOR ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY. I told my friends who were using it and they all had their horses checked and EVERY ONE came up ANEMIC. Please test your horses and SWITCH FEEDS IMMEDIATELY.

Pros: none

Cons: causes anemia,terrible feed

SafeChoice - a controlled starch feed

posted 5 years ago

SafeChoice is a high-quality, pelleted feed recommended for horses that are 'prone to metabolic disturbances related to high starch intake.' It has added vitamins, minerals, yeast culture and microbials. We've been using this feed for about 3 to 3-1/2 years now and won't use anything else.

Pros: Highly digestible fiber, controlled starches

Cons: None

Great Product

posted 5 years ago

This is a great product my horses loved it when I was able to afford it. Sadly I had to switch to Truimph which is like 3 dollars cheaper. But if you have a horse that has problems with food collic this feed is really easy to digest and is just an all around great product.

Pros: great all around feed, easy to digest

Cons: way too expensive

Good all around feed

posted 5 years ago

This feed is a great way for my easy keeping horses to meet their nutritional requirements without adding a lot of starch to their diet. It also has a probiotic which helps them digest their food.

Pros: Low starch formula, probiotic

Cons: none
