Really helped OLD HORSE put on weight

posted 5 years ago

Taking an old horse into winter is always a challenge, my horse prefers to be outside and at age 29 I know he needs all the fat on his ol' bones to help keep him warm. He was looking kind of "ribby" last fall and I asked around through my horse friends about something to help. One suggested Empower, by Nutrena. Another friend seconded the motion.

It was rather hard to find, only a place in the next city had it. I arranged to have a bag delivered to a stable nearby and began feeding it like the bag suggested. It took a couple of bags before I thought I could see improvement. By winter, I couldn't feel ribs anymore. It came in a 40# bag and throughout the winter I fed him about half of what the bag said, more as a treat than full feed.

It's spring, he's shedding, he's nice and fat.

Pros: Easy to digest and really adds bulk

Cons: Expensive, but well worth it

Great top-dress to Senior feed

posted 5 years ago

Due to my work schedule and stalling arrangments, I was having a hard time increasing the number of feedings of "Senior" my old mare would have to have in order to keep her weight up. I was only able to feed her twice per day and she couldn't consume the amount she needed during those feedings. I was able to top dress her senior feed with Empower and watch her condition improve! I didn't have to feed very much Empower in order to see the improvement, so a bag lasts quite awhile.

Pros: puts on weight with out making horse hot

Cons: cost

Weight Builder

posted 5 years ago

I used this on my older mare with a facial injury. She has a difficult time chewing and this has maximum calories in a small portion. I alternate this with Amplify by Purina.

Pros: Less is more

Cons: Price
