Great feed for putting on weight

posted 7 years ago

I was looking for something to help put some weight on a very thin horse that didn't fair out the winter very well and after some research I found Empower. I mixed it with Nutrena Safe Choice and this horse put on some healthy weight and looked great, healthy coat and attitude in a month. I believe you can feed alone but mixing worked well for me seeing I didn't want him to put on the weight too fast and it made it last longer, seeing it costs a little more.

Here is what Nutrena has to say about Empower:

An extruded combination of high-fat rice bran and flaxseed for an improved blend of Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids.
Highly digestible fat from vegetable sources provides the extra nutrition to help support performance and endurance.
Trace minerals from organic complex sources to maintain balanced trace mineral levels in the total diet.
Added vitamin E and selenium for anti-oxidant benefits.
Stabilized nuggets for easier feeding and improved shelf life made possible by state-of-the-art extrusion technology.

Pros: Great for putting weight on a horse

Cons: Costs a little more

I really like it!

posted 6 years ago

My horse needed some weight and this really helped.

I have learned that pelleted food for horses can be very beneficial to their systems and condition. This feed really has made a difference in my horse.

Pros: Great feed!

Cons: Little pricey

Great for hard-keepers

posted 7 years ago

I found this feed to be a little pricey but worth it for horses that are hard keepers. I like to use it in a mixture with another feed, like Strategy, to help stretch it further. My older horse put on weight rather quickly when he was on Empower and his coat looked better as well. I wish our feed store still carried it regularly.

Pros: gets weight on the horses, palatable

Cons: price

High quality

posted 6 years ago

Empower is good for the senior horse, or one that is down in weight. Similar to Purina equine senior, this is a very good grain with complete vitamins & minerals added. I highly recommend this feed.

Pros: good quality

Cons: none
