Great for shelter pets

posted 6 years ago

Our shelter gives these out with every animal going home. It's great that the pets are able to be kept on the same food they had been on in the shelter-- it limits the diarrhea that can happen from a big change like leaving the shelter and entering a new home AND being given a food it never ate before. Thanks to Hills Science Diet for supporting shelters!

Pros: helps to keep the pets on what they're used to

Cons: can be too rich for some pets

Love them!!

posted 6 years ago

Our shelter has adopter bags of food and it is a good way to ease the animal into a new situation. Even though life at the shelter is stressful for the animal they grow somewhat accustomed to certain things, food, and people. Going to a new home shouldn't be a stressful event it should be a happy day and it is, but it can stressful. Stessful=stomach issues. Even though they are going home with people they have bonded with, they are still different. Given the stress of a new home the dog or cat can be eased into a new food with this small adopter bag of food by mixing it with their new food. Our shelter also has a retail area and it gives a new adopter, who previously thought that they couldn't afford a higher end food, the chance to see they can afford it.

Pros: eases transition of adopted animals who have grown accustomed to eating Science Diet in the Shelter

Cons: none

Great idea.

posted 6 years ago

These are a great idea. They contain samples of the diet the animal has been on at the shelter. Puppy, Kitten, Adult Cat, or Dog. Also contains coupons, and other information for new pet owners.

Pros: Informative

Cons: Diets can be too rich for some animals.

Hmmm

posted 6 years ago

Most vets are given money to promote this brand, so they do. Just because your vet recommends something it, very unfortunately, isn't neccessarily because it is the best. There are many fillers with no nutritional value in this food.
For how expensive it is; it isn't worth it.

Pros: Fairly decent quality

Cons: Not worth the money

Great for the new adopter

posted 6 years ago

The size is great for the new adopter and very easy to store. Everyone that comes in to the shelter and adoptes a dog will be sent home with a bag of food.

Pros: Good for new homes

Cons: Heavy for certain dogs

I have 3 cats and they love this food. They eat less and walk away with a full belly. Eating less means pooping less and less litter. All around a great choice for my cats.
