Greenies Pill Pockets are a brilliant solution to a common canine owner's problem.

January 20, 2012 12:31 am | By Zootoo Editor Flinn D.

Greenies Pill Pockets are ingeniously designed beef-flavored doggie treats that beg the question, “why did it take us so long to think of this?” The concept behind Greenies Pill Pockets is simple. Who hasn’t struggled to fit a pesky pill down Fido’s throat from time to time, only to have him spit it up over and over again?

Lucky for us, someone over at Greenies wised up, and now, instead of fighting to squeeze that capsule into a hunk of cheese, or wrapping it up in ham to get your dog to swallow it, you can put it into a Greenies Pill Pocket, a piece of beef with the center hollowed out to create a perfect resting space for the pill.

Don’t look too closely at the ingredients, since the folks at Greenies have had to cut a few corners in order to bring us this bona fide life-changer. We won’t begrudge them some corn syrup here or artificial flavoring there. Besides, who cares about scanning labels with your newfound free time? You’re going to be too busy doing all the tasks you couldn’t do before because you were trying to cram medicine down your mutt’s mouth.

One downside of Greenies Pill Pockets is the rank stench that pervades your house when you open the packaging. These treats stink. Actually, they smell like a swarm of locusts flew into your A/C unit and died. Maybe in 1955. But your dog will love that smell, and that taste, so Greenies Pill Pockets will satisfy both of you. And you won’t care one bit about the smell when you realize that you’ll never have to hold his mouth open with one hand again while you force a capsule down his throat with the other.

Pros: Solves a difficult problem with dog ownership; dogs love the smell and taste.

Cons: Overpowering smell; not entirely all-natural.

I tried a sample of these and was amazed how easy it is to sneak a pill in there. My dog ate it right up and seemed to love it!

Pros: Your dog will love this treat

Pretty smart

I've used pill pockets for antibiotics that upset my dogs stomach, and my dog never had anymore issues after using the pill pockets. The smell and taste is strong enough to mask almost anything....I definitely wouldn't be able to use these if an animal was a life-time pill taker, but for a couple weeks they're great!

Pros: tasty, resourceful

Cons: ...
