Beneful Prepared Meals offer a solid option for wet-food advocates.

October 10, 2010 5:29 pm | By Zootoo Editor Flinn D.

The Roasted Chicken Recipe, from the Beneful Prepared Meals line, is a new entry in the wet dog food market, reflecting the recent rise in popularity of shifting dogs away from dry food.

If you’re one of the many switching to wet food, Beneful’s Roasted Chicken option is a solid choice. The product’s texture is thick with fresh meats and vegetables such as chicken, carrots and spinach and the preservatives and artificial flavors and colors have been kept to a respectable minimum.

Our tester dogs loved the food’s savory, meaty flavor and fresh, moist texture. According to the packaging, the container’s serving side provides two meals' worth of food. You might not think this is a bonus if you don’t enjoy keeping wet food in your refrigerator — and if you were hoping to avoid the refrigeration issue by feeding it to your pawed pal all at once, that probably isn’t going to happen unless he’s a Great Dane.

The debate about whether wet or dry dog food is better for Fido rages on and I, for one, am happy to remain on the sidelines. Dogs are simple creatures — feed them the healthiest ingredients you can and they will stay happy and healthy.

Pros: Savory texture; high-quality ingredients.

Cons: Not entirely all-natural.

Looks good enough to eat myself

posted 5 years ago

This looks like really good food and I'm so happy that it has healthy ingredients. My dogs love it love it love it. I've said if I was starving, I would heat it up and eat it myself, I'm not planning on that but it's the best looking dog food that I've ever seen.

Pros: good looking stuff

Cons: can be expensive in some stores

I have 3 cats and they love this food. They eat less and walk away with a full belly. Eating less means pooping less and less litter. All around a great choice for my cats.
