To me, just looking at a horse is one of the great joys in life. It is hard to put into words, but those of you who are horse lovers know what I mean. Barbara Livingston has captured something of the majesty & vulnerability of these animals in her book, "More Old Friends". The first time I looked at the photo with the inmate with Quick Call I cried. That this horse in his older years could change a person's life says volumes to me. And anyone who thinks that animals don't need compassion, needs to look at the photo of Precisionist with the owner of Old Friends. Another of my favorites is the one of Personal Flag's partial face & eye looking out the small window. What is he thinking? What does he see? For shear beauty, see Carabid, the cover horse. The photos each come with at least a 2-pg write up on the horse & their current status. Some of them have already crossed the Bridge & are running free with the Celestial Herd. All of them are so blessed that they had someone who cared enough about them to send them where they would be cared for...and Barbara Livingston captures this perfectly. I promise..you won't be disappointed.

This is such a great book. Each horse featured has a photo and a life story written about it. In many cases, I remembered the horse from its racing days when I was a horse crazy kid, so it was a kind of a cool 'where are they now' update.
The less famous horses featured are no less interesting and some of their stories are both beautiful and heartbreaking. A really wonderful book, and essential for anyone who loves racing, rescue, or grumpy old broodmares ;)

the pics are glorious and the text is very informative. i think my favorite pic is on the cover. i also think the title is wonderful. this is a must if you have a collection or even to read from the library. if you get it from the library i warn you, you will want to keep it
