Zylexis Equine Vaccine, 5 x 1 dose SKU: 060PFZ02-1 [printable] Description: An immunomodulator consisting of inactivated (killed) parapox ovis virus, Zylexis aids in the reduction of upper respiratory disease associated with EHV-1 and EHV-4 that can be expensive to treat, and may compromise the health of other horses, resulting in lost training or competition time. Advantages: Equine herpesvirus (EHV) types 1 & 4 latently infects 80% of all horses. EHV-1 has been demonstrated to cause respiratory disease including pneumonia, abortion and stillbirth in pregnant mares, and neurologic symptoms. EHV-4 has been demonstrated to cause respiratory disease in young and stressed horses. Equine herpesvirus is easily reactivated by common stressors such as environmental changes, training, competition and trailering. Reactivation causes a high viral load that can contribute to sickness, respiratory signs, and sometimes results in pneumonia. These infections can be expensive to treat, may compromise the health of other horses in the barn and may result in lost training/competition time for valuable show horses. Safe for use in healthy horses including foals four months of age and older. Indications For use in healthy horses four months of age or older as an aid in reducing upper respiratory disease caused by equine herpesvirus types 1 and 4. Precautions Do not administer within 21 days before slaughter. For use in horses only. Do not use in other animal species. Keep this and all drugs out of reach of children. In case of anaphylaxis, adminster epinephrine or equivalent. Safety: Zylexis is safe for use in healthy horses, including foals four months of age and older. Dosage and Administration Aseptically rehydrate the freeze-dried component with the sterile diluent provided. Shake well and administer 2 mL intramuscularly. Repeat the 2-mL dose on days 2 and 9 following the initial dose. Retreatment is recommended during subsequent disease episodes or prior to stress-inducing situations. Recommended Storage Store at 2® - 8® C. Do not freeze. Use entire contents when first opened. Sterilized syringes and needles should be used to administer this immunomodulator. Keep your horse healthy!

posted 7 years ago

This is an excellent vaccine for horses. Easy to administer and effective against a broad variety of preventable diseases. Horses can get sick and die easier than you would expect for such a big animal. Do your part by keeping their vaccinations current.

Pros: protects against disease

Cons: none

Healthy horses start here

We love this vaccine for our horses! A sick animal is no fun for everyone and vet calls are expensive! Make everyone happier by making sure your horses are protected against disease. This is our most-used vaccine and we consider it mandatory.

Pros: Prevents illness in horses!

Cons: must remember to redose them
