Helps to maintain leverage on the bit

posted 5 years ago

When used correctly, this is a great piece of equipment to maintain leverage action on the bit. There are different widths of chains - the thinner the chain, the harsher it is for the horse. Also, you don't want to adjust it too tight or it can cut off the blood supply to the tongue; and, too loose, you lose any leverage action.

Pros: Bit maintains leverage action with a curb chain

Cons: Can be adjusted too tight or too loose; never twist

Ok choice

posted 5 years ago

These are ok, but I prefer just a leather strap. I prefer to use the least amount of pain/pressure as possible...it keeps the horse more responsive. I do the same with my bits too. Some horses may need this, I just choose to use the leather only.

Pros: dont like

Cons: discomfort to horse
