Not my favorite

posted 5 years ago

I used this to feed my horses for 2 winters. I no longer feed them this way. We have 4 horses so I liked the idea of feeding a round bale, makes it easier....not really. I spent more time cleaning all the extra hay off the ground they pulled out, stepped on and pooped on...some I could save and try to stuff back in but most was wasted. I did this daily however, in spring...I still had ALOT of waste to clean up...hard work. Besides picking threw the hay, in a small group like that I found that my lower ranking mares were getting bit and hurt alot by the others.
I much prefer they way I do it now...I feed morning and night...4 seperate piles of hay spread out so they can rotate as much as they like and no one gets bit anymore. They clean up every last piece of hay...I have no mess to clean up. That green feeder...well, It sits in the corner of my barnyard...I might use it if I were to go away for a weekend.

Pros: Can put out extra food

Cons: horses waste too much

Horse hay feeder

posted 5 years ago

at habitat we have several of these feeders, mainly in the hospital. the tray in the bottom allows us to put the measured amount of pellet food and the basket above holds the hay. the horses can eat both from the same feeder at their own pace. these feeders are easily mounted on the wall and can be removed to wash. the feeders are durable and are designed so the horse cant hurt itself while eating.

Pros: easily mounted, holds about 10 pounds of hay, durable

Cons: none

Saves on hay

posted 5 years ago

We use one of these to put our rolls of hay in for the horses. It helps save on hay because the horse will spread the hay out and then pee on it.
Our horses ill paw at it and it is dented up a little, but not much.

Pros: Saves on hay

Cons: Bend easily

Works great!

posted 6 years ago

I love this feeder for the pasture horses. It alows the animals to eat and not make a major mess. It keeps the hay in one area and alows more than one to eat at a time. Great product.

Pros: Keeps the hay in one place, able to feed more than one animal at a time.

Cons: Alows animals to eat all they want. Depending on the animal there could be over eating.

Love it

I had this when I had horses. They stopped making so much mess. I noticed they also fed together at the same time. It is also still being used in that barn today.

Pros: Its great for multiple animals, and is sturdy.

Cons: none
