Dr Pitcairn's book is a comprehensive, extremely informative book which intelligently reviews all aspects of pet health, care and behavior (primarily dogs and cats) using easy to read, friendly language. He discusses a range of related topics, such as truths about the pet food industry, additives commonly found in commercial pet foods (man are they scary!) and their toxic effects, the advantage of a natural pet food diet (plus great easy to make recipes- most of the recipes are raw and I find it is hard to find local raw meat I would trust as safe). He discusses in depth pet illnesses and how to care for the ill pet. He includes anecdotes of his own experiences and his pet patients' experiences which are striking and really merit mention. He also lists major cat and dog breeds and their traits using brief concise language. He includes information regarding other topics that are valuable to the pet owner, such as common pet products and their pros and cons, travel tips, and there is a special section on holistic medicine which is accessible and not overwhelming. Much of the info in this book is not widely discussed in the vet world. It is a valuable resource that opened my eyes to pet health and care and my pets and I are better because of it.

I have had this book for at least five years and constantly refer to it when I have questions. I especially turned to it for healthy food for my Lhasa Apso after the food scare last year.They had many recipes to feedmy pet and even listed the vitamins that are good for them. When my Lhasa Apso tore a ligament in his leg, the book explained everything the Vet surgeon was going to do and what I could expect. This book is very helpful to have on hand when you have pets.

This book is a must have for dog or cat owners. Dr. Pitcairn is a well respected expert and that is mainly due to this book. It is a great resource, especially for those whoraw feed their pets or who are doing research about it.

This is an awesome book! It has become a staple for me to refer to when I have a question regarding my two babies! : ) This is a must-have book for all animal owners because it has a wealth of informative information! : )

Great book that all cat and dog owners should have on hand. Very informational, helpful and covers many pet health issues. But always remember, if you have any health concerns, always contact your vet.
