The Really Useful Guinea Pig Guide By Myra Mahoney

Myra Mahoney's book, at under 50 pages, may look a bit unimpressive if taken only for its size. However, her guide to guinea pig care has helped me at times when the vet was stumped, and at times a concise format can come in quite handy.

Mahoney offers knowledgeable tips in a cute format (anthropomorphic illustrations of guinea pigs accompany the text). The book is just as fun as guinea pigs are--and it does a great job of educating owners both new and old about their precious little pets.

Topics include: some history about guinea pigs in the wild, getting a guinea pig, care, and health conditions.

Whether you're new or old to owning guinea pigs, this guide is a helpful one you will wish to have on hand. I've kept guinea pigs for over 20 years, and this is my favorite care text.

Pros: Concise answers to questions; cute illustrations.

Cons: Rather than featuring photos, all the guinea pigs are drawn--which is both a pro and con.
