This fine American variety was named in honor of one of America's splendid gardeners. It was given the Award of Merit by the Royal Horticulture Society after being developed around 1900 in Philadelphia. The blossoms have an overall color of deep red.The flowers have a fragrance resembling that of sweet apples. It can be easily grown and will do quite well in partially shaded pools of most any size.
