This filter keeps my 46 gallon freshwater tank sparking clean. I especially appreciate the flexibility of using different filter media, such as activated carbon or an ammonia remover when the tank is stressed. The media is easy to replace because it's enclosed in a netting bag, minimizing mess and expediting the media change. The filter itself is simple to maintain and extremely reliable. Should any part fail, it's very easy to obtain a replacement (however the only failure we had was the fault of the user - ME!). The filter also encourages oxygenation of the water by breaking the surface with water returning to the aquarium. I strongly recommend this filter, especially for hobbyists who want their aquarium to be low maintenance.

The Hagen AquaClear Power filters in my opinion, have always been the longest living,work horse filters,quite a bang for the buck.
This past year,Hagen took their prices and made quite an outrageous jump on the price of them.
With my limited budget,it was tough to see that happen.For the prices they are now,I may just start saving up for the Eheims for the future.
If cost isn't a problem,they're a great filter.

This filter system have made having fish a joy again. Before I never had a clean tank and my fish were not doing well. When I changed to this filter I really like that I can choose what filter media I need to match the needs of the tank. I have not lost a fish in over two years which is a first for me.

I like these filters and their system of replacable filter units - You can choose just the foam & carbon pieces, or add a level of ammonia filtration as well. This worked great for our marine reef tank.
