Nice little tank

posted 5 years ago

I got this tank for two goldfish that my husband bought. He had found a round bowl at a garage sale (don't ask....) and thought it would look neat with a couple of goldfish in it.

Anyone who has goldfish knows that after about a day in a regular bowl, the water gets cloudy and icky and the fish look miserable.

So I trotted off to Petco and found this tank which was about the right size for the space the bowl was in. I purchased a plant and some gravel and went home to "rescue" the poor bedragled goldfish.

The tank has stayed fairly clean with a minimum amount of work. I do a 10% water change about once a week, and a 1/3rd tank change about once a month. About twice a year, I transfer the fish to that miserable bowl and do an entire tank clean - being careful of course to retain about 1/3 of the original water to maintain bacterial balance.

Well, the original two fish each died, one by one, of fungus despite that disgusting green fungus medicine, and I know have two newer fish. I've had the current fish for just over a year and they seem to be doing well.

One fish is a fantail, and the other is "sort of" a rescue - I got him from the "feeder" fish tank! He has lovely orange and white markings and I couldn't picture him going to be another fish's meal. LOL!!!

The filters for this system can be a little hard to find since this does not seem to be one of Marineland's more popular tanks.

I also wish I had a slightly larger tank because even the two goldfish look like they could use more room!

The tank is quiet when it runs and the filter does a nice job of keeping the water clear. I'm not sure what the bio wheel does since the nitrite levels seem to shoot up quickly.

Pros: Water stays fairly clear

Cons: Small - filter can be hard to find.
