Occupi Crunchy Busy Bars are part chew toy, part delicious treat.

January 20, 2012 12:12 am | By Zootoo Editor Flinn D.

The Occupi Crunchy Busy Bars by Petstages combine the appeal of a chew toy with the flavor of a delicious treat. Made primarily from natural chicken flavor and wheat flour, the Busy Bars contain no artificial flavorings or preservatives. And the treat’s corrugated sides provide a fun, stimulating surface that will keep your dog focused on chewing for hours.

If your dog needs additional stimulation, the Occupi Crunchy Busy Bars are intended to be used with Occupi Treat Toys — fun contraptions that challenge your dog to use his wits and cunning to get to the chew toy inside. Once you’ve inserted the Busy Bar into the toy, watch as your dog plays with it until he is rewarded with the release of the treat.

When I first gave our canine reviewer the Occupi Crunchy Busy Bar, it was too hard for him to get a good grip on. I watched him push it around the floor in frustration, tantalized by the smell and taste but confounded by the hardness of the object that he mistook for plastic or wood. Eventually, he got the bar between his jaws and chewed long enough for his saliva to soften the hard exterior and for him to start tasting the soft meaty center. At this point, he started to get the full benefit of the treat — in addition to providing nutrients, the snack is also an excellent way to stimulate the gums of your dog and to satisfy their natural chewing instinct.

He eventually chewed and swallowed the entire treat and it did not give him digestion problems, as some chew treats can. Simply put, he seemed to derive a lot of satisfaction from both the taste and the experience of snacking on this unique treat.

Pros: Texture and shape keeps dogs engaged; treat is meaty and satisfying.

Cons: None.
