Dogs love garbage, too

posted 6 years ago

I wish I hadn't read the ingredients. My dogs do love these, and I've used them to keep one of them happy in his crate.

Still, the truth is out there:

Rice flour, sugar, glycerine, cellulose powder, wheat flour, propylene glycol, sodium caseinate, natural poultry flavor, dried animal digest, dried meat by-product, potassium sorbate (a preservative), vitamins ( ... ), trace minerals ( ... )

The animal digest and meat by-product ingredients are just not good. I won't go into it here, but look on the internet for something about pet nutrition that tells you what they are.

Wolves might eat it in the wild, but then the stuff wouldn't go through a processing plant, taking time and inviting additional contamination.

I'm not even going to make my standard disclaimer that I try hard not to feed my dogs grains, but that I make exceptions for treats. The rice and wheat would lower my evaluation to a 3 or so.

But the waste meat stuff ... agggh. Now I have to go feed my dogs salmon jerky and apologize for giving them Jumbones.

Pros: Keeps dogs occupied, they love 'em

Cons: some bad ingredients

My dogs are so happy when I give them these!

posted 6 years ago

Another Pedigree treat that my dogs love. I give them these whenever I'm going away for a longer amount of time and it keeps them chewing for a little while.

Pros: Dogs go crazy for these.

Cons: None

Takes a while, but she does chew on them

posted 6 years ago

I picked this up to see if it could keep my active dog busy for at least a little while. At first she just carries the bone around and plays with it. Sometimes it can take a few days before she gets to chewing. It has been dropped on my foot and let me just say it HURTS!

Pros: Nice treat, keeps her busy for a bit

Cons: very heavy and its loud when dropped

Jumbilicious

A great tasting alternative to rawhide. High in fiber, low in fat, this satifies my dogs need to chew and keep him busy for a while.

Pros: long lasting

Cons: none

Ok bones

posted 6 years ago

My dogs love these but when I watch them eat them I am not pleased about how they seem so chewy. I wonder if they are very easily digested or just lay in their stomachs for a long time. I quit feeding them because of this.

Pros: Dogs enjoy them

Cons: I am not sure they are healthy
