Newman's Own Organics — the second generation dog treats for medium and large-sized dogs.
Editor's Review

Newman's Own dog treats combine satisfying taste with A-list ingredients.

October 15, 2010 5:00 pm | By Zootoo Editor Flinn D.

Newman’s Own Treats are a great way to reward your dog during training. They are small enough to fit in your pocket, chewy enough to stimulate and satisfy your dog’s natural chewing instinct, and – as with all Newman’s Own products – made with no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

Some of the delicious and nutritious ingredients used in creating the Chicken and Vegetable Recipe include real chicken, oat and barley flour, molasses, carrots and peas. The texture of the treats are soft and rubbery, meaning dogs can devour them quickly and get back to their training. As with any treat it is important to remember that they are not intended as a meal replacement and should be used sparingly.

One of the great aspects of Newman’s Own products is the hilarious story on each package – usually about one of Paul’s own dogs. The Chicken and Vegetable Recipe is no exception and includes a long, fantastical story about one of Paul’s terriers supposedly shopping a tell-all book about the Newman family around to publishers.

Normally I wouldn’t bother including a review of any sort of marketing material used to push a product, but in this case I feel like it shows just how much the Newman’s love their dogs, and this is reflected in the ingredients they use in their food. The only possible downside to purchasing any organic dog food is that it doesn’t last as long as its preservative-laden cousins. But in the case of Newman’s Own, the food is so good for your pooch it’s definitely worth the more frequent trips to the pet store.

Pros: Wholesome and nutritious ingredients; dogs love the taste and texture.

Cons: None.
