Switch from Cheese to a Pill Pocket
posted 4 years ago
Hrothgar is my cancer dog and has to take alot of pills. We are up to like 12 pills two times a day and 5 pills three times a day. I have always used Kraft Cheese to put the meds in. It always has worked for all my dogs.
When the vet gave Hrothgar a new pill to add to the others, he refused to eat the cheese with the meds in it. The pill had a strong smell to it and Hrothgar could smell it in the cheese. I then tried bread with peanut butter, lunch meat and nothing worked.
I was told about Pill Pockets. So I picked up a bag and gave them a try. They worked. Hrothgar loves them. The smell of beef is stronger than the smell of the meds. The only thing I don't like is the price. The capsula size will hold three of the big pills so Hrothgar gets about 3 of these pockets each time we med. That is 9 a day as I pack them pockets completely full. The price per bag is about $9.00 and worth it if I don't have to force them down Hrothgar.
Pros: smells great
Cons: price

Exactly what we needed!
posted 4 years ago
Our dog Emma is very picking about taking pills. After her surgery, she refused to take her pain medication, and would find them no matter what we tried to hid them in. We bought these from our vet hoping that maybe they would work; and did they ever! She doesn't even notice the medication anymore! The smell really masks the scent of the pills, and they must taste great, because she always gets excited when I offer her one.
I think they are extremely easy to use, and will definetly buy them again.
Pros: Perfect for hiding pills.
Cons: None that I have encountered so far.

Must smell good!
posted 4 years ago
Pill pockets are the only type of greenies I would use--have said in my other reviews how awful I think the "regular" greenies are. But these in the beef flavor work great--especially at the shelter where you can have some difficult pets. And also even for pets that you can easily pill but who have to take lots of meds, it makes it easier. The beef ones must be really "odoriferous" to the dogs because they seemed to me to be scarfed down faster than the chicken flavor.
Pros: easy to use
Cons: none

Great product

I am not a Greenies fan, but these are great! I have a dog that needs to take medication several times a day and these work well. I used to try cheese(which he loves), hot dogs and peanut butter. He always managed to eat the good stuff and spit out the pill! Peanut butter sorta worked, but made him throw up. The beef flavored ones are definitely his favorite. Pill taking has become his favorite treat time!
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: None

An invaluable tool
posted 4 years ago
My friend's dog was seriously ill, to the point where the dog could barely swallow. She needed antibiotics badly, and shots weren't very practical. After trying everything she knew to tempt the dog to swallow the pills and having no luck, she tried the Greenies Pill Pockets. Magic! The dog loved them, and continues to love them. These seem the perfect way to help a dog get or stay health.
Pros: dog loves it
Cons: what's not to like?
