The PETCO Dog Training Clicker provides a reliable training tool at an unbeatable price.

August 11, 2011 4:23 pm | By Zootoo Editor Flinn D.

Whether you’re just trying out clicker training for the first time or have used clickers for years to reinforce your dog’s behavior in a positive way, the PETCO Dog Training Clicker is an inexpensive, basic, and reliable tool that gets the job done without muss or fuss.

For owners who are new to using a clicker to provide positive reinforcement for their dogs, the PETCO model is an ideal option, mainly because of the low price. The clicker retails for under $2 during some online sales — a true bargain when you consider that other clickers on the market retail for closer to $10. Of course, some pricier clickers also have additional features such as a combination whistle and clicker, but if you’re just starting out with clicker training, you may want to ease into the process with a cheaper model like the PETCO in order to determine whether the tool is right for you and your dog at all.

On the other end of the training spectrum, those owners who are familiar with clicker training and rely on it for a behavior-shaping tool will also appreciate the PETCO Dog Training Clicker’s low price. Instead of worrying about whether the clicker is in your tote bag when you’re going out for training sessions, at the bargain price of this model, you can stock up on a few and keep them wherever you want a clicker close at hand. (Although it’s worth noting that the PETCO Dog Training Clicker does have a d-ring so that you can keep it attached to your dog’s leash or other handy places.)

Simply put, the volume and the durability of the PETCO Dog Training Clicker makes the product a well-performing training tool—and at the bargain price, this clicker is a true value for novices and advanced trainers alike.

Pros: Good volume and durability; bargain price.

Cons: No frills, although who needs them at this price?

Good training tool

posted 6 years ago

This is a decent clicker that is inexpensive and easy to find. It attaches easily to a key ring or the dog's collar so it is easy to keep it handy. I have seen clicker training work very well for many dogs. It does take practice to get the timing down with the clicking and then giving a treat. I found my dogs responded just as well to initial training with treats and then phasing out the treats and giving praise. I do recommend clicker training as a method to try when working with your dog and I think this clicker would work just as well as more expensive ones.

Pros: reinforcing to many dogs

Cons: my dogs do just as well without it

A good basic clicker

posted 6 years ago

I own one of these very basic clickers, and for people just getting into clicker training, this isn't a bad choice. When I bought one I spent about 25 cents for this, and I can't imagine that the price has gone up terribly since then.

If you get really dedicated to clicker training, I'd switch to one of the fancier, more ergonomic models just because they're easier on your hands and the dogs' ears! This is a decent enough "beginner clicker" though when you're testing the waters.

Pros: Cheap, good training tool

Cons: Click noise can scare some dogs, no way to change volume of click
